What Are Instacart Shopper Referral Codes?

Instacart is the go-to service for quick and effective grocery delivery. Customers select groceries from our various retailers, we then send out a personal shopper who will do the shopping and deliver to the customer when they are finished.

But if you could make money by referring Instacart personal shoppers?

That’s the premise of Instacart shopper referral codes. They are different than promotional codes or referral codes that give you money off your order or offer free delivery.

By using driver referral codes, both you and your referral can receive compensation for completing a certain number of deliveries (they refer to them as batches) over a short time period like a month

This sounds lucrative, right? But you and your friend will only get paid if they hit the threshold of deliveries required or batches.

How much do you stand to make with driver referrals?

How Much Can You Make with Instacart Referral Codes?

You can make anywhere from $400 to $750 depending on your zone.

To invite shoppers, you must simply share your referral code with them. The bonus you get paid out will vary from $400-$750 for them completely anywhere from 30 to 50 batches in 30 days. Amounts vary zone.

That’s a good amount of referral money that Instacart is doling out.

  1. I’ve used Instacart twice and both times my groceries showed up almost a half hour before the beginning of the time range that I chose. I just don’t understand why they ask for a 1-hour time range if they never plan to show up within that range.

    • It really depends on the Instacart shopper that takes your order. For you, this seems off-putting since the timeframe was off the mark. It can be a hit or miss but more often than not the timeframe is usually accurate. Hope this helps!

  2. Elizabeth, something you probably didn’t know was/is, as a pro shopper we don’t see a “delivery time frame”. We see something like “This order is due by….” There’s nothing on our side to encourage us to throttle back. They don’t pay us a LOT, so we have to get VOLUME and that means clearing the order ASAP to be able to get another order on-screen to accept.

Generally, you will get SOME KIND of communication from your shopper in the App through the messenger. I always talk to my customers. Use the app to tell the shopper you would not like your groceries til a certain time. Here’s the problem. We have to swipe to confirm delivery BEFORE getting a new order. So if you don’t want for four hours or something that is going to be a problem.

Especially if you have only a couple/few items. Cause the shoppers are going to be done I a few min and ready to deliver. So if you have a small order do not time frame ahead. Wait and order it til you can be there to receive it. ESPECIALLY if you have temp sensitive items like milk or frozen.

If it’s a full order, 40+ items with produce you are looking at a 1-2 hour shop time and then delivery. Plan it like that.

Here is another caveat though. Instacart doesn’t pay well often. So I look at how many items I have to pick and the miles I have to drive to deliver and if it is roughly equal to $1 per item picked, I grab it. If it is equal to $.30 per item I’m going to pass up on that order unless there is just ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE to be had. Because then I’m working for free pretty much.

Just some perspective from a provider standpoint.

  3. I agree with Adam. We don’t see times and once we grab a order, we the shoppers want to complete it ASAP so we can grab the next batch/order.
